Latest Comeups, Franchize Edition
Written by Taylor Michael
Franchize is an independent up n’ coming Canadian rapper based out of Scarborough, Ontario. With 0 co-signs and 2090 listeners on spotify at the time of writing this, he is what you would consider a hidden gem.
His top song to date is his most recent single, ‘How Can I Lose‘ released on March 29th 2022. Dethroning ‘Kurt Cobain‘ featuring another local artist YTN Paco. However, I don’t believe these are even his best songs as he has a whole album full of slept on bangers.
If you’re a fan of the Toronto sound you’ll love Franchize. Even if you’re not 100% into the Toronto sound I noticed I can listen to him as if he was a mainstream artist which is a very good thing. Fitting in with your own sound is essential for the music. I was originally going to tell you who he sounds like but honestly, he sounds like Franchize. He’s his own man. His debut album, ‘Winter Baby‘ was released on January 22nd, 2022. After speaking to him, there is no official date set for this release. However, he let us in that there will be a deluxe for his most recent album so definitely tap in to that!!
My top 3 songs I would recommend you to check out:

Learn About Franchize:
Franchize started making music out of the blue when he went to go support a friend of his at the Dungeon Studio in the east-end of Toronto. After spitting a verse, his friends would consistently gas him up which gave him more confidence to continue making music. “There’s been a lot of times life got hard and I wanted to quit but man dem always cut that thought out my head and always push me to keep going so I’m thankful for that.”
Growing up in Scarborough, he says basketball played a big role in his earlier years. However, sometimes life gets too real and any dream or hobby that doesn’t make you money has to be pushed to the side. That’s exactly what happened in his case. With Franchize just turning 30, he now feels well established and is ready for his music to takeover. From all the lessons he has learned and all the memories from his past I’m positive we will see that reflect into his music. (Which we already have.)
When asking if he was signed this is what he had to say, “I’m not signed to traprel8ted records but I’m traprelated for life, we got it out the mud together and it will stay like that facts. No co-signs from big artist but I fuck with some important people in my city so a co sign isn’t to important for me I just gotta travel and put this work in”
