Who Is AR Paisley?

AR Paisley born Amarit Rehal is a 25-year-old rapper coming out of Mississauga, Ontario. Clocking in at just over 1,250,000 monthly listeners after jumping from 440,000 listeners and hot off his newest release, Hollywood, which has already garnered 47,000 listens in the first twelve days, it’s irrefutable that AR Paisley has established a loyal and growing fanbase. With 4 years past his first album release, Screwface, he is on the journey of becoming a leading force in the Canadian branch of the rap industry.

Why Should I Know AR Paisley?

When going through his music and interviews, a characteristic of his that stood out to me was his certainty. He pushed away his teacher’s verbal anchors that like “You’ll never make it,” and took it as drive. Paisley dropped out of school in grade 12 to fully commit to his artistry, a move most are afraid to do. He put himself on all four of his album covers holding certainty in his vision and betting on himself to make it. If I could compare him, I would say he’s a fresh breath for the new generation with hard-hitting bars laced in his tracks reminiscent of Big L or NasPaisley gels nicely with all of the featured artists on his projects such as NojokeJigsawAP MoneyBvlly, which makes for a new experience and avenue with every artist he works with.

Learn More About AR Paisley!

With the influences of EminemLudacris, and JayZ being a big part of his childhood, he was drawn to the rap world. He started battle rapping at the early age of 14 in the schoolyards of Mississauga, being coined the best rapper in the school. When new kids would come to take the title, Paisley would bury them with a bar off the top of the dome and leave the surrounding mob screaming.

At 17, he entered the King of the Dot rap battle in Hamilton, Ontario where he beat all competitors and received the $1000 prize. After winning he went up against the heavy hitters of battle rapping, DNA and Charron with the runner-up of the competition and went the distance in rounds of 2 on 2 battles where he held his own.

After winning KOTD, he started to steer away from battle rap to focus on putting out singles and constructing his first album, Screwface, where he gained major popularity from the first track on the album, 1of1, along with a music video on youtube that sits today at 120,000 views. His 4 album catalog is filled with rottweiler-like flow and style with songs like GrindBeen in My BagSink or Swim(S.O.S), and Aye Woah.

With raw, smart, and standout lyrics, accompanied by a well-balanced beat to tie them together, his songs come off less like music and more artillery for the ears drums. He’s not afraid to slow it down either using slower melodic flows with songs such as TimelessLet’s Have a ToastLife’s a Bitch, and Fenty.

I believe Timeless to be one of the greatest intros to an album I’ve heard in a long time with a bouncing beat and a powerful choir to layer the listener with goosebumps. A song I can’t leave off this list is Legends Never Die on his newest album Pressure, a tribute to the late Sidhu Moose Wala who was murdered back in May of 2022. Paisley had a close bond with him and appears on Wala’s song Love Sick, a song he continues to perform on his tours where the audience keeps his words alive
